MLIS Portfolio Survival Guide
Dear IS Students,
You've probably noticed all the second-years looking stressed-out and tired because of the "dreaded" portfolio presentations. Please know that we did not mean to scare you. The portfolio may seem like something far off in the distance, but we can all attest that those deadlines approach much quicker that you may think. Despite all that you may have seen, most of our class can say that the portfolio is a much more enjoyable experience than it has been previously made out to be because it is a chance to show off all of your hard work. It is a chance for you to identify an issue and become an advocate for change within the profession. Most of all, it is great professional experience as we will all need to be able to articulate an idea and convince others of their merits. We are the future of this field and the portfolio represents our first steps to change it for the better. It may seem like a daunting task at first but with some hard work, thoughtfulness, and preparation, you will all do just fine. This guide will give to the student perspective about portfolio and offer some helpful tips about what it is, how to put it together, and how to prepare for the presentation. We hope this helps.
We wish you all the best of luck,
